A life committed to the wildlife of Brazil
In 5 episodes of 26 minutes each, the documentary series “Wild family” shows the extraordinary everyday life of the Silveira family at the IOP, the Brazilian Jaguar Institute. Leandro Silveira is an internationally renowned Jaguar expert. He and his wife, veterinarian Anah Jacomo, have been involved in conservation activities for many years. Not only for jaguars – but monkeys, parrots, wolves, vultures, anteaters, tapirs and many other rescue animals have now found a new home in the IOP.
The Joy of Singing

There is a special magic in singing together - everyone who has ever sung in a choir agrees on that. When a wide variety of voices come together in all their diversity, an enormous musical power is created. The Joy of Singing follows this magic and accompanies two choir directors and one choir director as they turn a group of singing enthusiasts, some of whom could not be more different, into choirs of rousing musical intensity. It is a glimpse into a field of work in which closeness and distance, identification and projection have to be brought into balance anew each time. Sometimes playful, sometimes serious, but always highly fascinated and open-hearted, the documentary illuminates choral singing as a unique symbiotic connection between all participants. The overwhelming feeling of being part of a whole determines the rhythm of the film. Humanity is discovered in music, where the shared experience of sound becomes a social adventure and a moment of self-realization in equal measure. The two filmmakers Torsten Striegnitz and Simone Dobmeier have succeeded in creating a great symbiosis of music and documentary film with The Joy of Singing, which gives a true-to-life impression of the sense of community that singing in a choir means. Their film finds the humanity in art and the magic in music. A moving and stirring cinematic experience of great warmth that emphasizes the unstoppable power of community in times of isolation and makes understandable how music brings people together.

Buddha and the Snow Leopards

Their habitat continuously shrinks because of environmental destruction and the local herdsmen broadening their pastures. A conflict between humans and nature. Buddhist monks try to solve this conflict with an extraordinary project: The herdsmen are given cameras to document their daily lives and rediscover their traditional understanding of nature.

Everything in the universe is in a state of continuous change. There is neither a beginning nor an ending. This is the basis of the ancient Chinese teaching of Wu Xing, the “circle of change”. This holistic philosophy, closely linked to Daoism, is thousands of years old, but is still present in contemporary China. And not only there. Wu Xing, also called 5 elements or phases, has become immensely popular outside of China, too. But what is it’s real core?
How and where can it still be found in China today? German director Jan Hinrik Drevs and New Zealand DOP Mike Single have embarked on an extensive journey through China – looking for traces of this millennia old system. A cinematic journey with 200 shooting days, spread over 15 months, covering all seasons and climate zones, from the vastness and heat of the desert to the long icy nights of the far north. From remote rural villages to the populous Megacities.
A journey, where the film team observes, listens and searches for an understanding. In this way a film has come up that essentially contributes to the understanding of Chinese culture, philosophy and society and promotes the utmost important dialogue between China and the West.
